BP-100™ Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food
BP-100™ is a compressed ready to use therapeutic food (RUTF) for treatment of severe acute malnutrition in children and adults.
As a solid form of F-100, BP-100™ is more likely to be appreciated in the long term by adults and adolescents than semi-liquid RUTFs. This can influence the outcome of the treatment by ensuring that severely malnourished adolescents and adults keep their appetite during the whole period.
Nutritional qualities
The nutritional composition is in accordance with WHO/WFP/UNSSCN/UNICEF specifications.
The nutritional specification is very similar to the therapeutic WHO formula F-100. The major nutritional difference between F-100 and BP-100™ is that BP-100™ contains iron (10 mg per 100g). One 57 g bar of BP-100 contains 300 kcal.
BP-100™ can be eaten as a biscuit directly from the pack, accompanied by clean drinking water, or crumbled into boiled drinking water and eaten as a porridge.
The number of bars required per day depends on the weight of the person, e.g. 2 bars per day for a 3 kg child and approximately 10 bars per day for a 30 kg adult.
Logistical qualities
The optimal logistical properties secure an easy, safe and efficient transportation, distribution, usage and storage under extreme conditions.
BP-100™ is the RUTF with the longest shelf life, 4 years in an unopened package which enables organizations to make long-term planning and establish preparedness stocks.
